Why do people think that mandating car insurance is the same as mandating health insurance?

Why do people think that mandating car insurance is the same as mandating health insurance?

I could choose not to drive.

Also even the democratic legal think tank advisers have said there is no legal precedent for mandating the purchase of health insurance from a private company. If they don't have single payer or even a public option it may not hold up in the supreme court.

Why do people keep comparing health insurance to car insurance?

Why do people keep comparing health insurance to car insurance?

Yes you are forced to have car insurance….if you OWN a car!

Why do people keep stating that being forced into buying health care is no different than being federally mandated to own car insurance?

How is mandating health insurance socialism? Why is no one rioting about car insurance?

How is mandating health insurance socialism? Why is no one rioting about car insurance?

Healthcare is still run by the private sector. Just more people will be able to get it.

How is ensuring everyone has insurance socialized medicine? Healthcare is run by the private sector either way.

I had a bad car crash, not my fault, but I didnt have any insurance. Can i sue?

I was in a bad car accident (totally not my fault- the other driver got a ticket for running a stop sign). I didnt have any car insurance though (dumb I know) and got a ticket for that. I have multiple injuries requiring surgery. My health insurance covers some but not all and I'm missing work. Can I sue the other driver for injuries etc. even though I didn't have insurance? I live in a no-fault state. thanx

for USA: If i got hurt in a car accident, will my heath insurance cover the expenses? or the car insurance?

For USA: If i got hurt in a car accident, will my heath insurance cover the expenses? or the car insurance?

I am an international student studying in NJ. It is mandotory for all students to have heath insurance so i got one. I recenty bought a car from NJ. I m looking for insurance prices now.
I m confused about that issue! In my country (cyprus) car insurance companies only pay for your damages to cars or environment. Your health insurance cover the medical expenses. I think it is different in here USA…

Don't car insurance companies take advantage of people and actually make a profit?

Don't car insurance companies take advantage of people and actually make a profit?

Should we target them for a federal government tax dollar paid for competitor?

I mean its not fair for car insurance companies to make a profit either is it?

The federal government could compete with them for our business like they would with health insurance..

Oh wait, wouldn't that put them out of business?

Why do Liberals keep comparing Health care mandate to car insurance.?

Why do Liberals keep comparing Health care mandate to car insurance.?

If I choose not to have a driver license, and not to own a car. I don't need to have car insurance. But with the health care mandate I have no choice or go to jail!

Why do people keep saying that being forced to buy car insurance is the same thing as being forced to buy?

Why do people keep saying that being forced to buy car insurance is the same thing as being forced to buy?

health insurance?

You do know that one is not required to own a car right?

There are other ways of getting around right?

The law only requires you to have liability insurance to cover OTHER peoples cars not your own right?

Being required to buy health insurance from a private company simply because you are alive is NOT THE SAME.

Should insurance with pre-existing conditions be expanded for car and other forms of insurance besides health?

Should insurance with pre-existing conditions be expanded for car and other forms of insurance besides health?

I think it would be a great idea! With the new national healthcare bill I don't have to waste money buying health insurance because if I get sick I can just get insurance and they have to pay for it because it's a pre-existing condition! Next we can have it so that I don't need car insurance, but if I get in an accident I can get insurance and then they have to pay to fix my car! Isn't this a great idea?!

How is a law requiring car insurance any where near a mandatory health insurance law?

How is a law requiring car insurance any where near a mandatory health insurance law?

Hear out these two big differences before answering:

1) You can lawfully not have car insurance if you don't drive. The only way you can lawfully not have health insurance is by committing suicide (which to me sounds counter to the point of requiring health insurance)

2) Mandatory car insurance is so that you can pay someone else if you damage their property. Mandatory health insurance only protects the individual from him or herself.

Can anyone reason with these dems before they throw this rights-squashing law on us?
