Why do Liberals keep comparing Health care mandate to car insurance.?

If I choose not to have a driver license, and not to own a car. I don't need to have car insurance. But with the health care mandate I have no choice or go to jail!

You're 100% correct. There is no legal or practical comparison between the two. The "individual mandate" is unconstitutional. http://bit.ly/8TAjUA

Car insurance is mandatory not for the individual driving, but to protect others on the road. This is where the argument starts to fall apart for liberals. Also, the mandated car insurance doesn't apply to people under the age of 16 years old. Health Care will be mandatory for all ages, therefore parents will be forced to put their whole family under the government plan or pay a fine….and possibly go to jail if you don't pay that fine.It would be like making it mandatory for everyone, when they reach 16 to get a drivers license. You aren't required to get one in this country if you do not drive.

No one is going to put you in jail because you didn't have health insurance. That would be nutz. They will fine you though, so you might wish you were in jail where you get free health insurance paid for by the taxpayers. You do need to have car insurance. Not having that is illegal in some states and criminally prosecutable…..But there is a difference between car insurance and health insurance. With auto insurance it protects not just you, but those you might hurt in an accident + vehical damage. With Health Insurance no one but you gets hurt…except the taxpayers pockets.I am opposed to national health care btw…

I dont think they ever said that. You will be fined for not having health insurance though. But, The government cannot force anyone to buy a product. And thats what health insurance is. I shouldnt be paying for anyone elses health insurance unless I choose to do so.

What you say is true. However, in the case of health coverage, the only reason that it is to be mandated is so that the not sick will pay for the care of the sick. Period. It is all about money, not health care for all.

  6. lady gaga Says:

Because obviously dictating the exact terms of your care, down to the relationship between you & your doctor, is EXACTLY like insuring a car. If you fall for the party talking points…or are a little slow in the noggin.

  7. taylor lautner Says:

It is a stupid argument. I bet most of the 8 million people who live in Manhattan don't have car insurance. Because they don't have cars. *

  8. justin bieber Says:

I compare it to another corporate giveaway to the insurance industry. We desperately need a single-payer system for basic medical needs and catastrophic care.

  9. justin bieber Says:

The possibility of jail for failure to buy health insurance was explicitly disclaimed in the bill months ago. Didn't you read the bill?

  10. taylor lautner Says:

There is also a difference between your state's constitution and the federal constitution.

  11. miley cyrus Says:

I've seen it used to illustrate that mandated insurance is not unconstitutional.

  12. Vanessa Hudgens Says:

Nancy Polosi is the one that first meantion the jail time.

  13. selena gomez Says:

Because they like to make nonsensical analogies. Remember Bush = Hitler and all that rubbish?

  14. selena gomez Says:

    I don't it's clearly a tax attached to a service…

  15. taylor lautner Says:

I have no idea what you are talking about. Can you cite a source to support this claim of jail?

  16. justin bieber Says:

The talking heads told them to think that way.

  17. lady gaga Says:

    they dont know the difference.

  18. taylor swift Says:

We do not, Neocon. Only in your "question" on YA.
