Insurance goes with vehicles, not with drivers. If the car is insured, and you are driving it with your parents permission, you are covered. You could and perhaps should be added to the policy if you are a frequent driver of the car, but nonetheless you are covered. What does the ticket actually say? Is it not being uninsured? If so, it's a fix it type ticket. Just take the proof of insurance to the court clerk and chances are they will sign off on it and dismiss it.But the law goes beyond just having to have insurance, it also says you must show it on request of law enforcement. So if the ticket is actually for not having proof of insurance to show, you may have a fine to pay.

Ok so..You should automatically be insured as a casual driver of the car if: You drove and insured car with the owners permission and a valid drivers license. Simply take the proof of insurance to the local DA and ask that the ticket be dismissed and/or take the proof to court with you and ask that the ticket be dismissed. You were in violation because you did not show the the proof of insurance, not necessarily because the car was not insured. However you may get stuck with the lesser charge of failure to show proof. Source(s): so ok ?

You MUST be added to your parents' insurance policy to be covered in their car if you are living at home. If you are not living under their roof then you would have been covered as anyone else who might occasionally drive their car.
