Is it legal to Drive a borrowed car without insurance?

Let's say my friend has this car, up to date tags, and insurance for himself, and all the works for FOR HIM.

He lets me borrow it, I get pulled over or i get in a fender bender

Aside from the ticket and the damages is there any legal problems there?

Diving a insured car but me not having insurance and other stuff?

Hi Brian,Most car insurance policies cover the vehicle regardless of who is driving the car. The exceptions are generally people who live in your home but are not added to your policy. That is a no-no.Otherwise, as long as he has the car insured and has given you permission to drive, you should be considered legal. If you do cause an accident, his insurance will cover the damages, but if he doesn't have enough insurance, the injured party may sue you for the difference, but still no illegality is involved regarding the insurance. Hope that helps. Source(s): http://www.auto-insurance-helper0o0com/aut…

It's that car that's insured not the driver, as long as the driver has a valid license and the car is insured there will be no problem.

In most cases there is an uninsured driver clause in your buddy's policy. He should check and make sure. There may not be anything…in which case you would be responsible for any damages done to the other vehicle. I don't think there are any legal issues like you going to jail or anything like that but the tickets (speeding, crossing the yellow, failure to yield, etc.) you are responsible for.

All companies and policies are dif but you shouldn't drive it unless you have insurance on your seslf.

Depends if his car is insured for any driver. If you have no insurance, and his policy is for himself only or himself and a named driverthen no.If its insured for any driver then yes, but check his insurance with him and read the small print too……….

  6. selena gomez Says:

    Depends on the insurance carriers.

  7. miley cyrus Says:

it depends on the insurance of the car owner. If they have coverage for other drivers. Then its your fault no theres.

  8. Vanessa Hudgens Says:

Yes, you will get into trouble. But you know this. It is illegal in the United States to drive without car insurance. The insurance is on YOU the operator. It protects others you may injure or other cars you may damage as a result of an accident that you are or may be found 'at fault' for, but again, you know or suspect this. Do not operate any vehicle without insurance. Period.

Liability insurance follows the car, not the driver. And the liability insurance is the required one because it covers the person you hit and that's all the state cares about. So no, there would be no legal issue there. Other insurance that covers theft and damage done to the driver's car that caused the accident is optional. In other words, if you hit someone with your friend's car, your friend's insurance company will pay for the damages done to the car belonging to the person you hit, but it won't cover damages done to your friend's car UNLESS your friend signed up for the "super deluxe" insurance policy that covers "other drivers".Legally speaking, if your friend didn't opt for the super deluxe insurance package, then you would be liable for fixing your friend's car. If you don't pay, he can sue you and win. If he DID opt for the super deluxe insurance package, then he can still sue you and win for the amount by which his premium went up times however many months it will stay up as a result of the accident. Also, if the car gets stolen while you're borrowing it, you would also be liable for the equivalent value of replacing it.

  12. Vanessa Hudgens Says:

    yes …drive forever.

  13. selena gomez Says:

His insurance will also cover an occasinal driver he allowd to drive the car. This is standard. He should call his insurance. You should cover the deductible, any tickets, and maybe any increase in his insurance for a few years if you want to keep him as a friend or drive the car again.

  14. lady gaga Says:

no!!!!!! what are you thinking man, you need insurance for any car your gonna drive!

  15. selena gomez Says:

Yes, there are probably. If you get in an accident he's going to have to pay if you're at fault.so I would very much advise against doing this.

  16. Vanessa Hudgens Says:

um i think you might get a ticket for fender bender but i dont think its illegal since its not your car and the car does have insurance

  17. lady gaga Says:

if you don't have liability insurance, then you can't drive any car.

  18. lady gaga Says:

It would be illegal for someone to have an automobile without insurance and if their policy doesnt cover GUEST drivers then YES it would be illegal for you to drive it. You will have to check his policy to see if you are covered.I would think you would be If not you are liable for the damages on the other car as well as his.Your friend should of been up front with you and told you that YOU wouldn't be covered if he did and you took that gamble then you lost.

  19. taylor lautner Says:

Not in my state of North Carolina. But my insurance, covers anyone who drives my car.

  20. taylor swift Says:

It depends on how his policy reads. Some insure just the driver (in any car) and some insure the car (with any driver, with a license) Check the policy. Also depends on the state you are in, and the state he policy is from. Read that policy first, then decide if you can drive the car.

  21. taylor lautner Says:

wat do u think? ……… i think not. howbout u?

  22. taylor swift Says:

Depends on the insurance company. But on mine my cars covered so that anyone who drives it is covered.Usually its the car thats insured and not the driver.so if the car is covered then anyone driving the car is covered too.

  23. selena gomez Says:

Depends on the state laws. In Illinois it is illegal to drive without insurance, period. If it happened here, you would be in trouble for driving without insurance and your buddies insurance would be responsible for any damages (and would probably dump him right after). Source(s): My mom got hit by an uninsured driver that was drag racing in a borrowed car. Her insurance sued the crap out of the owner of the car and the driver did jail time.

  24. miley cyrus Says:

Well if he doesn't have insurance that covers other drivers using his car then I think you're both screwed.

  25. justin bieber Says:

It's all according. Sometimes it is, Somtimes it is'nt. It all depends. You don't need insurance on yourself to drive a company car in the job you work at because(more than likely) your companies insurance will cover you. Probably depends on the insurance policy of the one you borrowed the car from. Can vary from state to state, and vary in different situations, be cautious, it can be considered illegal at certain times. For the most part you won't get called on it, and it is legal for you to drive a borrowed car without insurance.

Yip yibadee.Sounds like a can of worms.
