I want to put the car insurance under my dad, but the title is under my name. Is it possible?
My wife just move up to GA from FL. She need to change her car title to GA title and add my name to it. Her previous insurance is expire. We need insurance first to be able to get the tag and title change. Can the insurance be under my dad's name and put the title under mine and my wife's name. Is that possible?

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters Normally, whoever is the registered owner of an automobile has to be the first named insured on an insurance policy. There is an insurance that you can get through an agent called non-owners insurance, but a reputable company will require the first named insured to be the registered owner.

No, unless you and your dad have the same name and at this point, you would be beating the system and taking a very big chance (not sure why I even gave you this idea)

Well im not very much and i dont want to speculate about this thing. The better thing to is try to search it on the net, look for some car insurance website and read thier car insurance policy or rules and regulation. You won't be able to get plates in one name, if the title is in another name, and the insurance ALSO has to have the same name. So no. Unless she signs the title over to your dad, and he ALSO gets the tags for it. Tags, title, & insurance name ALL have to match. Source(s): agent, 21+ years
