I just moved from Massachusetts to California. Will my car insurance/accident history get transfered?

Undecided Question

I just moved from Massachusetts to California. Will my car insurance/accident history get transfered?

I have heard that Massachusetts insurance companies are typically independent of California insurance companies. As a consequence, California insurance companies wont have access to my records in Mass. This would mean that my old claims/history won't affect my new insurance policy in California. Can someone tell me if this true.

When you get your license in California, your driving history will come forward and be there for your insurance carrier to see, and if any accident losses were ticketed, they will see it.Whatever company you go to for insurance will ask you to fill out an application, including any claims or losses over (generally) the past three years. Then they will run your driving record and a CLUE report. The CLUE report and the insurance scoring system are tools insurers use to decide your risk profile, that is, how likely you are to file a claim against your policy. If they see things there you didn't mention, they will raise the rate you were quoted, or drop you.In the event you get a policy without them finding out, you can bet they will find out if you ever have a claim, and deny it because you were fraudulent on your application. Don't risk it.

It should b/c your history dosen't stay in one state it goes with you. If you have state farm but progressive in california and you switch then it will go with it.

The new insurance company can get your old record with a C.L.U.E. report. Most companies use the C.L.U.E. reports now. Tip: do not lie to your new company about your old record. If you do, you may not be covered if you have a claim and you could also be charged with insurance fraud.Note: some posters here are advising about a driving record that may not be transferred by 4 states. That is different from an insurance record. So even if your driving record didn't transfer, Insurance records are always available to any company that wants to look at them.

All insurance companies share information, it's a fact of life. No you can't outrun your driving history.

Where is the justice in this not happening? Changing states doesn't magically improve your driving. Only a changed attitude can do that. If you have a bad record, remember who gave it to you, and change your thinking. Source(s): School of Life-56 yrs.

All but four states share drivers' records with each other–and those two are not among the four, so your driving record in MA is available to CA by computer network. And, 95 percent of insurers share loss/claims information through a national database called CLUE, so you probably won't get away there, either.
